Grazie Miller (No Aigrettes) (Miller/Bottle) You really were high above the threshold of genius Lounging there trying while digging in to Nan True’s hole Part of the dance is gurning and learning to grapple with your square root: A fleeting glance of dreaming wide awake Out of the blue there’s a parallel mode; all that can be uncovered, recently discovered Are you lything and gracing your god song tonight? ‘Cause the black cat it will sit down at the Inca delta borderline Truly yours is no trick of the light, you glow There’s a melody that Ed or Ian know Underdub and you’ll blow With your calyx above and your fretboard below

ED or Ian? 04:57
ED or Ian? (Miller/Bottle) Two roads diverge: ED or Ian? I could not travel both And still remain one traveller, sadly Until I rolled the dice I looked onward far as I could In the undergrowth and the swaying wood With courage I blew on dandelion heads Paths are merging Two ways diverging Until there's a turning in the highway That could change the compass for a spell Of silence Of wisdom A reason Till ED or Ian Agreed on another world Two friends diverge: get mad get even They could not both be right And still remain compadres, in time And so the die was cast They looked inwards far as they could Till they realised they were making good The nightmares behind them now in dreams to share Plans are bulging Two friends divulging I’m sure there’s a turning in the highway That could be some comfort for a spell Of silence Of wisdom A reason Till ED or Ian Agree on another world

I Remain 04:37
I Remain (Miller/Bottle) Now is the time for a squeeze of the hand You’re feeling helpless and you can’t see tomorrow Seems what was begun has truly collapsed (oh no) Here’s where I wanted to stay Not leave you all (behind) Never found a reason to it all We couldn’t find a reason Grief is a fathomless sky It never ends but it changes form; From a cave to a corridor The light of long gone stars it bathes us even now I Remain I Remain I Remain Here is the will of the way that things are: I’ve done my best to heal, dear friends you’ve been helpful Now what was begun has clearly transformed (oh yes) What has been lost can live on not leave us all (behind) Never find an answer to it all We’ve barely found the question (a question we have barely found) Grief is the bottomless sea It never ends but it changes shape; From a place to a passageway It’s not a sign of weakness but the price of love I Remain I Remain I Remain I Remain I Remain

about

In January 2019 I wished HAPPY 70th BIRTHDAY to the late, great, guitarist/composer and all round inspiration, Phil Miller with the first of a series of tracks where I borrowed Phil's marvellous melodies and wove them into song-based settings.

Phil played and wrote in Delivery, Matching Mole, Hatfield and The North, National Health and later his own band, In Cahoots.

It is my hope that these recordings are some kind of tribute to a phenomenal presence in many of our musical lives.
